How to Clean Gutters With a Gutter Vacuum

Cleaning gutters with a vacuum is faster, cleaner and far safer than climbing a ladder. Here’s how to get set up and get the job done.

1. Choose your pole system

Our Kevlar gutter poles come in two systems. Both do the same job; the difference is how the sections join.

  • Push fit: tapered sections that push together and pull apart easily. The top has a silicone U-bend.
  • Clamped: sections held with finger-tight clamps. The top has a carbon fibre U-bend.

On both systems, the bottom two sections are Kevlar. That’s where your hands are while the pole is at height, so that’s where non-conductivity matters most.

2. Pick the right tool

Three interchangeable tools fit the U-bend on either system.

  • Crevice tool: narrow, for getting right inside the gutter.
  • Round tool: a good all-rounder for general debris.
  • Gulper tool: lets more air in, so it can shift larger debris like clumps of leaves.

3. Connect everything up

All our carbon poles are 51 millimetres in diameter. That matches the 51 millimetre industry standard hose and the 51 millimetre inlet on every Cyclone machine. With no narrow point from gutter to tank, debris moves freely and the hose is far less likely to block.

4. Look up before you lift

Assemble the pole on the ground, then check for overhead cables before raising it. Keep a safe distance from any power lines.

5. Work along the gutter

Switch on the machine and guide the tool along the gutter, keeping both feet on the ground. Work steadily from one end to the other, pausing on heavily compacted areas.

6. Empty the tank

When you’ve finished, tip the tank out. Leaves and moss can usually go straight into flower beds or with your garden waste.

7. Flush and store

Suck a bucket of clean water up through the pole and hose to rinse them out and swill the tank. Empty it, and you’re ready for next time.
